Play Ball!  New Additions and Enhancements To Clarkstown’s Sports Fields Are Underway

If you’ve been by the grounds of the former Rockland Country Day School or Germonds
Park recently, you’ve likely noticed a great deal of activity going on during what are
normally the quiet winter months. I’m pleased to report that work has been underway at
both these locations to upgrade and add to the town’s inventory of sports fields. These
additions and enhancements will serve to provide our youth and adult sports leagues
with increased access to fields, more resilient and weather-resistant playing surfaces,
and even extend the seasons for some.

With a new turf soccer field at Zukor Park already added to our facilities in 2023, the
Town went to work on making improvements for other sports at other locations. Most
recently, we completed the construction of a new 73,000 square foot, natural grass,
multi-sport field at the lower level of the former Rockland Country Day School in
Congers. The field is intended for  lacrosse, soccer  and  football games. The sod was
planted in October 2024 and requires several months to “take hold” before it can be
used, but is expected to be ready for our 2025 spring season. The Town also created
an additional parking lot with 57 spaces at the site.

Exciting things are also happening at the Germonds Park Sports Complex in West
Nyack. The Town’s contractor, Athletic Fields of America, has mobilized and started
work on planned improvements to the existing softball and baseball fields, as well as the
West Nyack Little League infields. Clearing has begun along the softball field for a
proposed parking lot and water detention area.  Crews will soon begin work on Little
League fields 1 and 2, with new turf infields expected to be complete by April 2025.
The Germonds project includes a new, artificial turf, multi-purpose athletic field to
accommodate soccer, lacrosse, football, and adult softball. Amenities at this field will
include bleachers, a scoreboard, new LED sports lighting packages, a concession
stand, and expanded parking lot areas.  This new turf multi-purpose field is anticipated
to be completed by the end of 2025.  I will continue to keep you updated as this project
progresses.

Over the years, our town has experienced tremendous growth in participation across
various sports. We are fortunate to live in a community that values the impact that
access to sports fields has on our quality of life. In turn, the Town of Clarkstown is
committed to enhancing and expanding our recreational facilities to meet the changing
needs of our residents while remaining fiscally responsible to our taxpayers.
Together, we will create a lasting legacy that benefits athletes and residents for
generations to come.
