If you have been selected to serve as a juror for the Clarkstown Justice Court, it is our distinct pleasure to welcome you to service and we know that you will find the experience greatly satisfying and richly rewarding.
Pursuant to the Constitution of the United States of America, it is your responsibility as a citizen to serve. It is a great privilege and honor to serve as a juror, but we are aware that this service may cause great inconvenience and even hardship. The service rendered is critical to our community since it sets the moral tone and standards by which we all must abide. We thank you for giving your time and energies in assisting us in our endeavors.
If you claim an exemption or excusal, you must notify this court in writing by mailing a letter with a copy of your notice to the Court at least 5 days before the date you are to appear, along with documented evidence of your reason. (For example, detailed doctor’s letter, or travel/airline tickets). You will receive a 2 year credit only if you appear. Section 128.9 Uniform Rules, and 524-c Judiciary Law. You will not be credited for appearing and requesting an exemption or excusal. So there is no dispute that you appeared, you can and should request the clerk give you a letter confirming your service for your employer.
