Clarkstown Is Your Summer “Parks-town”

Summer hasn’t officially arrived yet, but the Town of Clarkstown is gearing up to offer its
residents a season full of family fun. Our first major summer event will take place at Germonds
Pool on Saturday, June 15th from noon to 6:00pm. Known as “Serendipity Saturday,” this
celebration marks the opening of the first of the Town’s 3 public pools, and features picnicking,
entertainment, and free admission for Clarkstown residents to swim in the pool. It’s always a
really fun day which I look forward to each year.

The rest of the Town’s pools are in the process of being filled and treated in anticipation of
opening in the coming weeks. Congers Pool is set to open on Saturday, June 22nd. The largest
of the facilities, Lake Nanuet, is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 29th. All 3 pools are
currently scheduled to remain open through September 2nd. Registration for a Town
Community Pass ID card can be completed at the Recreation and Parks office located at 31
Zukor Road in New City. Daily, individual season, and family season passes are available for
purchase at that office. Applicants must bring multiple forms of identification and proof of
residency to obtain the Community Pass ID card, which is necessary for entry to the pools.
Senior residents and combat veterans with a valid Community Pass card are admitted for free.
The Recreation Department can be reached at 1-845-639-6200 if you have any further
questions.

Another immensely popular summer offering from the Town is our free summer concert series.
The first concert coincides with the Town’s annual Independence Day Concert and Fireworks
show, which takes place this year on June 27th starting at 6:30 pm. Admission is free and open
to all residents and guests, and the entertainment features a flying demonstration by the
Rockland County Radio Control Club at &:15pm, a concert by the popular local band “Incidental
Contact,” at 8:00pm. The evening ends with an amazing display of fireworks following the
concert. A wide variety of food trucks are on-site and residents are also welcome to pack their
own picnics. The event takes place on the athletic fields at the Felix Festa Middle School in
West Nyack and the rain date is Friday, June 28th. Bring your chairs and blankets and come out
for a great night of family fun. This year’s Premiere Sponsors include Interstate Toyota and
Palisades Credit Union.

The remainder of the summer series features another 22 concerts across the town. Lake
Nanuet will host “The Counterfeiters” on Friday, June 28th and then another 8 shows on
Thursday evenings throughout the summer. The Congers Train Station and West Nyack Hamlet
Green and Firefighters Memorial Park will each feature 2 concerts. And every Friday, starting on July 5th, Kevin Landau Memorial Park in New City will feature lunchtime concerts running for
9 weeks.

Other popular summer events include 3 car shows at Congers Lake, a number of “Painting in
the Park” events, movie night at Lake Nanuet on August 9th, and a family campout at Congers
Lake on September 6th.

In addition to these special events, the town’s park system offers over 700 acres of land, 4
community centers, 2 picnic shelters, ball fields, multiple tennis and basketball courts, 2 multi-
court outdoor pickleball facilities, and a variety of playgrounds including a new accessible play
area in West Nyack. You can set up a quiet picnic, let the kids loose on the playground, or take
a stroll along the beautiful walking trails at Congers Lake and West Nyack. With all this to offer,
there’s no question that if you’re looking for summer fun, Clarkstown has something for you.
I hope to see you out there, and I wish everyone a safe, fun, and healthy summer!
